Having the appropriate tools is essential for your personal safety and security. Knowing what to carry and where to carry it are key considerations, but equally important is understanding what you are legally allowed to possess.
Let's face it, carrying large, uncomfortable items stuffed in all of your pockets is not practical. When deciding what to carry, I take a few factors into consideration:
First is practicality. Will it be useful?
Second is concealability. Can I hide it, or will everyone be asking what that bulge in my pocket is?
Third is legal. Can I legally carry these items where I am going.
Before carrying any items, it is important to thoroughly review all relevant laws and regulations in your area. It is crucial to keep in mind that laws can vary not only by region, but also by specific location. What may be permissible on a city street could be strictly prohibited in an airport or government building. Stay informed and ensure compliance with all applicable laws to avoid any potential legal issues.
One of my favorite knives is the CRKT Crawford-Kasper Fighting Folder. This knife is hard to find, but when you do, it's worth it. I must admit, I am a bit biased when it comes to this knife. I had the privilege of training with Bob Kasper before he passed and learning Kni-com from both Bob and his successor.
Another knife that I enjoy using is the Ravencrest Tactical Zhànshì (Warrior) OTF Knife, which I carry with me every day at work. Unfortunately, due to the laws in my state, automatic knives are illegal, so I feel most comfortable using it only at work, where it is permissible for me to carry . The Zhànshì is not only durable but also highly functional for law enforcement purposes.
Both the Kasper and the Zhànshì are incredibly discreet and compact. When in my pocket, the only visible part on both is a small clip, making them perfect for everyday carry.
